A The FDA-approved PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) is utilized in patients with acne, actinic keratosis, fine lines and wrinkles, flushing, large pores, pigmentation problems, redness, rosacea, scars and sun damage. Performed in conjunction with a topical application of ALA, or Levulan® (aminolevulinic acid), PDT is used to treat skin damage in a softer, gentler way. The treatment uses specific wavelengths of intense light through very specific filters to the skin, targeting tissue which absorbs the light’s energy.

Levulan PDT is a highly effective treatment used to destroy dangerous lesions called Actinic Keratoses (AKs), or rough scaly patches on the skin. These are caused by excessive exposure to the sun, and can sometimes progress into dangerous skin cancers for the 5 million Americans that have them. Part of a unique photodynamic therapy (PDT) system, Levulan Kerastic treats minimally to moderately thick AKs in an advanced 2-step treatment on the face or scalp. Levulan PDT uses a special blue light to destroy AKs, whether precancerous or not.
